Who else has been affected by super teams

The economic principle I’m exploring is how has scarcity of top tier players affected NBA teams?

My research question to help me study the economic principle is why isn't every NBA team able to establish such super teams as others?

The article NBA. have super teams made the game unwatchable? Argues the downside effects of super teams on other teams and outside viewers as well.
First, since these super teams have made games very predictable to who will win the ship or even a regular season game, fans especially haven´t been to pleased with this and recently the popularity of the NBA has gone down a bit.

Second now that super teams control the league others have been trying to form their own with high level players as well, but it is clear to say many have had struggle with this. A Lot of factors go into it when players join a team, location , how good or bad team is, and generally the type of fan bases.

Third,  location is a bigger factor then what most people would expect, Golden state Warriors is the super team everyone fears, but they are able to attract players only based on the location, which is on the coast of California, a very beautiful place to live.

In my next blog post I will research the question: Is having this super team dominate league good or bad for the league's future?

Effects of super teams on the league

My research question to help me study the economic principle is  how are teams able to establish such stacked rosters with limited space.

The article The downstream effect of the NBA´super team era dives into the effect super teams have had on the rest of the league

First, having these super teams all around the league has created a top heavy league where only a small percent of teams have a chance of winning the title, this takes a lot of teams out of the equation for competing for a title, forcing teams to try and establish their own super team

Second, since the league has become ¨top heavy¨ many teams that fail in creating their own superteam start the rebuilding process where they tank the season in hopes of landing a high draft pick which allows them to be better in the future

Third,  since the rebuilding process takes multiple years work in full effect teams that choose that route are going to be very bad for years to come, this is just bad for the organization but for the fans as well.

In my next blog post I will research the question: why isn't every NBA team able to establish their own super team?

Effects of Super teams on NBA

  • I will explore : Because of scarcity, people choose. All choices have an opportunity cost.
  • The overall question I will research to help explore the economic principle is:  How can teams use their limited budgets, draft picks, and roster spots to build the best team possible to win a championship?
  • 3-4 subquestions that will help me answer my overall research question are:
    •  how are NBA teams able to build dynasty's with such limited contract space
    •   what influence have these super teams  had on the league as a whole
    •   what do these super teams give up in order to maintain such stacked rosters
    • will super teams continue to dominate the league as a whole
  • Links to 3-4 reliable resources that can help answer the research question:

What effects have the ¨Super teams¨ of the NBA have had on the rest of the league?

economic principle I’m exploring is  how people's decisions are influenced  by scarcity of
goods and the opportunity costs associated with them.

My research question to help me study the economic principle is how have NBA teams been able to establish super teams, with limited salary cap´s and limited superstars. ¨Until the NBA breaks up its ¨super teams¨ it is basically just European soccer. this article dives into the effects super teams (Warriors) have had on the league as a whole.

First, in order for a team to develop they most give up other things such as players and money. The warriors have been able to get five superstars where others are lucky to have two. In the warriors case the players have given up a lot of money to keep that dynasty together.

Second, some players that have signed with the warriors have seen a huge opportunity cost of money. Superstars that deserve max contracts were signing for a small fraction of what they are worth, because of the scarcity of money a team is able to spend.

Third, in order to gather these high callabar players teams must give up other resources i.e Demarcus cousins is among the elite and deserves a well over a hundred million dollar contract. the warriors a team with limited salary space weren't able to offer him what heÅ› worth. Which caused Demarcus to take a six million dollar contract which is close to nothing for an elite player such as Demarcus.

In my next blog post I will research the question: how have other teams reacted to these unbalanced teams?
